Statistics indicate that the publishing industry produces about 12.4 million tons of CO2 each year. That translates into approximately 8.85 pounds per book. Most of the gas emissions come as a result of the process of harvesting trees, of which 70% of these trees, by the way, are coming from natural forests rather than from tree farms.
